Saranda is one of the most beautiful places of Albania and a great place, to
spend on holidays.  Located in south Albania enjoys a very good position along
the Ionian coast and nearby the Greek island of Corfu
These locations are connected via ferry links, which makes possible for everyone to visit
the Greek island of Corfu and the city of Saranda.

NAMES OF SARANDA
By the name “Onchesmos”.  ( from Greek:  Anchiasmos Αγχιασμός)
The it was renamed  in 320 Agioi Saranda (Άγιοι Σαράντα) which means
forty saints  in honour of Forty Martyrs of Sebaste. By Turks it has been
called Aya Sarandi and by Italians Santi Quaranta. In 1939 for a brief time
the name changed to Porto Edda in honour of the daughter of Benito Mussolini.


The city was firstly mentioned in I century BC. The ancient city was destroyed
 by the barbarian invasions. However, some ruins remained, and today is
possible to visit the old settlement as well as the old synagogue. Saranda is well
known for its sunny weather and has traditionally been the ideal destination for
the honeymooners and the young people. Not far from the city, there are
some small and clean beaches like KsamilKakome and Krorëz..

Saranda is blessed with a number of archaeological sites. The main
site is Butrint. Part of the UNESCO’s world heritage list, since 1992 is only 18 km away
from the city, which is also National Park. Other significant sites are
the ruins of the 40 Saints Monastery, the Mespopotam church and the
three-angular castle of the Vivari channel. Only 2 km south of Saranda on the top
of a high hill is the Lëkursi castle, a nice place for having a tasty meal while
enjoying the Ionian extraordinary landscape. 
You should not miss the opportunityto visit “The Blue Eye” water sources,
 a fantastic natural place.
And of course there are te ruins of the ancient city Phoenice (from Greek Φοινίκη, Albanian Finiq)
which was the old town of the Kaonian tribe etc.
